Tobermorey NT
7 August: Mt Isa to Tobermorey, via Urandangi
The road today was mostly dirt, so a little more challenging!
We had a pit stop at Urandangi, a tiny remote town where a pub is the only landmark. Pam runs the pub & also has a kangaroo shelter, as well as a wicked sense of humour. Car bonets guide you into the Dangi with various funny info.
Baby Zoe!!
From here we crossed into NT, clutching our border declaration passses- just as intimidating as QLD despite the remoteness of this dirt road known as The Plenty Highway.
1km from the border check is Tobermorey, a green oasis and welcome camp for a few nights.
(Nice spelling)!
Tobermorey is a working cattle station with 1300 head of cattle on millions of acres. Back at the homestead they currently have 8 calves, emu chicks, a grumpy camel and two curious kids, who havn't seen other kids for several months. Arly & Rex have been lots of fun, running around the property & sharing their home with us. With choppers coming & going, road trains picking up cattle- there is plenty going on. Noah would have been more than happy to move in! He loved the calves.
The sunset is stunning from the levee bank, built even higher due to the flood 2 years ago when the water levels rose 4m and damaged the homestead & much of the property.

The border patrol police are stationed here too, and with a few different versions of who can & can't cross the border I'll hold my breath until we cross through again tomorrow.
